Berkshire United Way to host #HereForGood volunteer month
BERKSHIRE COUNTY — Berkshire United Way (BUW) invites the community to participate in its #HereForGood volunteer month this April.

In honor of National Volunteer Month and in partnership with Northern Berkshire United Way, activities will be offered throughout Berkshire County and will include assembling food packs, StoryWalk™ events for children, trail cleanups, and more.
Sign up to participate in these socially distanced activities or at a nonprofit of your choosing at BUW’s Volunteer Center. Nonprofits are encouraged to enter additional volunteer activities to the site.
If you are unable to join these activities, you can still participate by snapping a photo of yourself “doing good” and sharing it on social media. Use the hashtag #HereForGood and BUW will send you a gift. This also enters you into the photo contest to win prizes. Whether you are helping a neighbor, planting a tree, or picking up trash, your informal volunteer efforts count!
Volunteer Month will culminate with BUW’s free virtual Live United Community Celebration on Thursday, April 29. More details to come.
#HereForGood Month is supported by dozens of local sponsors including lead sponsors Greylock Federal Credit Union and Berkshire Money Management.

“Birding the Hudson Valley” event to support Columbia County Habitat for Humanity

COLUMBIA COUNTY — Columbia County Habitat for Humanity recently announced that Kathryn Schneiderman, author of “Birding the Hudson Valley,” will lend her birding knowledge and expertise to the organization. She will host a virtual talk, on April 24 at 4 p.m., in a benefit to support affordable housing for local families. Schneiderman will also personally sign copies of her book.
Her talk will include photos, suggestions for selecting binoculars, hints for finding birds, an introduction to bird foods and habitats, and ways to become a better birder for both new and seasoned birders.
Schneiderman has taught college courses in general biology and ornithology at the University of Richmond and Hudson Valley Community College. For 14 years, she directed the NY Natural Heritage Program, a biodiversity inventory program run by The Nature Conservancy and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.
