Wander presents ‘Defy: Words in Bloom,’ an evening of new work by women writers
Pittsfield— On Wednesday, May 21st from 7 p.m to 8:30 p.m., Wander, as part of ArtWeek Berkshires, presents “Defy: Words in Bloom,” an evening of new work by women writers.
Every act of creation is an act of defiance, a willful insistence to coax ideas into fruition, a rebellious perseverance to tend intimate feelings, to cultivate desire despite an overgrowth of barriers. From this idea germinates “Defy: Words in Bloom.” Listeners are invited to experience poetry and creative nonfiction performed by Deirdre McKenna, maayan nuri héd, Nichole Dupont, Alÿcia Bacon, and Elizabeth Nelson.
“Each of the writers presenting will share deeply personal words. You’ll hear poetry exploring loss and the insistence of nature that we move on. There will be a nonfiction narrative on war and mothering, and creative nonfictions about resilience, defiance, love, healing, and justice,” said Nelson.

Paper flower sculptures by Elizabeth Nelson, who curated the event, will be on display. In addition, maayan nuri héd will display information about and artwork from “miranda on miranda,” a children’s book in collaboration with artist lettie Jane rennekamp, and upcycled apparel that has been hand painted using paper stencils inspired by the traditional Jewish papercutting craft.
