3rd Eye Gallery presents ‘Out of Time: Memory Portraits,’ new work by Sarah Sutro and A.F. Cook

Hoosick Falls, N.Y.— From September 7th through the 27th, the 3rd Eye Gallery presents ‘Out of Time: Memory Portraits,’ new work by Sarah Sutro and A.F. Cook.

Both Sarah Sutro and A.F. Cook live and work in the Berkshires, at the Eclipse Mill in North Adams. This two-person show offers contrasting visions loosely involving the portrait genre.

Sutro’s paintings present encounters between people of different cultures and times, involved in urgent conversations. Sculptured heads and masks are cast against vast landscape backgrounds suggesting an infinite stage “out of time.” Theaters of memory and desire with luscious color and enigmatic content, the paintings aspire to heal lost connections between people and nature. Clusters of people ask questions, confront each other, collectively seek answers to soul-searching subjects. This is the first formal introduction of this body of painting to the public.

Cook’s “Family Memento” portrait series considers the strange nostalgia of family history, by turns charming, antic, or disquieting. The artist also enjoys painting random hipsters and occasional self-portraits with a twist.

The exhibit runs from September 7th through the 27th at 3rd Eye Gallery at 9 John Street, Hoosick Falls in N.Y. There will be an opening reception on Saturday, September 7th from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. More information can be found online.

OLLI presents ‘Get it Done!’ with Jane Kavanau

Pittsfield— On Thursday, September 5th from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., OLLI presents ‘Get it Done!’ with Jane Kavanau.

Courtesy OLLI.

This course will introduce seven techniques and strategies for getting organized. Jane Kavanau approaches the subjects of organizing and decluttering from a somewhat different point of view than those of most organizers and self-help books. She believes that each person and situation is different, requiring that organizing strategies be flexible and simple, definitely NOT “one size fits all.”

As a former teacher, Jane Kavanau understands that people have different learning styles. As a former real estate agent, she has seen the pitfalls of having a disorganized home and mind.

Jane has taught courses and given talks on the subject of “Getting Organized.” Her clients say “Believe it or not, it really works.”

The course is on Thursday, September 5th from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Berkshire Community College on West Street in Pittsfield. Registration and more information can be found online.
