Bernay Fine Art announces Winter Group Show

GREAT BARRINGTONBernay Fine Art’s Winter Group Show will run January 22–March 6, 2022 and feature new works from Diane Ayott, Warner Friedman, Phil Knoll, Tony Luciani, Sue Muskat, Sonya Sklaroff, Shira Toren, and Michael Zelehoski. Works by Michael Filmus and Larry Zingale, artists new to the gallery, will also be included in the show.

This award-winning group of artists has been curated to include a variety of styles. Diane Ayott is a contemporary, modernist artist who uses paint to explore patterns and repetition to create serene, dream-like pieces. Phil Knoll is a figurative realistic artist who creates paintings of animals using graphite and watercolor. Sue Muskat shares a few new pieces in her word painting series, and Shira Toren presents abstract pieces made with venetian plaster. Friedman, Filmus, Luciani, Sklaroff, and Zingale present land and cityscapes, while the sculptural pieces by Michael Zelehoski attempt to reconcile the dichotomy between pictorial and physical space.

SPENCERTOWN, N.Y.Spencertown Academy Arts Center will present an in-person memoir-writing workshop with Elizabeth Diggs. The class will meet for six sessions at the Academy, on Tuesdays from February 1–March 8, 3–5 p.m.

“Writing a memoir is a journey to an unknown destination. The writer may believe that she or he knows the way, but the road will lead to surprising turns and forks that can bring forgotten memories into sharp focus and suddenly ‘let the future in,’” said Diggs. “We will hope to open those doors, and step through them to tell the story of where our life has taken us.”

Diggs is a playwright whose works include “Grant and Twain,” “Nightingale,” “Close Ties,” and many others produced off-Broadway and at regional theaters. She was Professor of Dramatic Writing at Tisch/NYU. She is the book writer for the musical “Mirette” with Tom Jones and Harvey Schmdt, and wrote for the TV drama “St. Elsewhere.” Her honors and awards include a Guggenheim, NEA, Los Angeles DramaLogue, the CBS/FDG prize, a Kennedy Center grant for new American plays, and the Edgerton Foundation grant.

Enrollment is limited to 12 participants (with a minimum of eight) and the cost is $120. To register, please visit the Academy website.

The Academy has installed Blueair HealthProtect 7470 air purifiers in the auditorium and table seating will be well spaced. For COVID safety, proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test prior to each session will be required for attendance. Masks must be worn while in the building.
