Bits & Bytes: NRM call for art; BCC virtual registration, Non-profit Institute series; cyber security workshop; LitNet launches TV show

Norman Rockwell Museum accepting entries for summer 2021 outdoor sculpture exhibition

Stockbridge — Norman Rockwell Museum invites participation in a juried exhibition of contemporary sculpture and installation art. Artists working in all media are invited to submit proposals for “Land of Enchantment,” an outdoor exhibit held in conjunction with the Museum’s upcoming show “Enchanted: A History of Fantasy Art,” opening June 12, 2021.

The outdoor installation will feature unique original works inspired by the exhibition’s themes of classical and contemporary mythology, fairy tales, and fantastical heroes and villains. The museum is seeking 3-D, life-size, weatherproof, outdoor submissions to be juried for awards by a panel of art professionals. Consigned sales permitted. Awards will be given for Best in Show ($750), Most Inventive ($500), Most Artistic ($500), People’s Choice, Children ($200), and People’s Choice, Adults ($200).

BCC to host virtual registration day, eight-part Non-profit Institute workshop series

Pittsfield — Berkshire Community College (BCC) will host a Virtual Registration Day on Saturday, Jan. 23 from 8 a.m.–12 p.m., via Zoom. The event will allow students to apply, register, get assistance with financial aid, and become enrolled students, prior to the start of spring classes, which begin on Monday, Jan. 25, 2021. Offices available, via Zoom, will be Admissions, Advising, Student Financial Services, and Registrar. The Follett Bookstore will be open for curbside pickup.

In addition, BCC will begin hosting a Non-profit Institute workshop series, which will run for eight consecutive sessions, on Thursday evenings from 5:30-7 p.m., via Zoom, from January 28–March 18, 2021.

The program offers a complete overview of resource development functions. Open to nonprofit staff, board members, and community volunteers, discussions will focus on real-world needs and daily challenges. Participants may enroll in the full series for $250; the fee for each separate session is $40.

Instructor Abbie von Schlegell, CFRE, FAFP, has more than 40 years of nonprofit experience, is a Certified Governance Trainer with BoardSource, and is a Strategic Partner with DonorSearch, the prospect research company.

The series includes the following courses: Basics of Development (Thursday, Jan. 28), Governance for Non-Profit Boards (Thursday, Feb. 4), Finances for Non-Profits (Thursday, Feb. 11), Volunteers (Thursday, Feb. 18), Annual Fund/Annual Appeals (Thursday, Feb. 25), Major Gifts, from Individuals (Thursday, March 4), Corporations (Thursday, March 11), Foundations (Thursday, March 18).

Dulye Leadership Experience hosts cyber security workshop with expert Dave Hall

Pittsfield — One of the region’s top IT experts, Dave Hall, founder and president of Pittsfield-based CompuWorks, will give actionable advice to dodge cyber hackers during the Ask the Expert: Size Up Your Cyber Risk Workshop, presented by the Dulye Leadership Experience (DLE), on January 27 at 5:15 p.m.

Reserve your virtual seat and learn how to lower your electronic risk profile, identify hacking attempts, and protect your personal information. Hall will answer live questions and provide concrete tips for deflecting threats. He will also provide a Cyber Profile Protection Worksheet for a customized assessment of your risk level and exact procedures for taking control, and 40 Savvy Tips to Secure Your Electronic Life Handbook to apply at home and at work.

LitNet Launches Monthly Cable TV Show with Community Television of South Berkshire

Lee — Literacy Network of South Berkshire (LitNet) announces the launch of its new monthly cable TV show, “Literacy Network of South Berkshire Presents…” Co-hosted by LitNet’s Executive Director Leigh Doherty and LitNet board member and local educator Dr. Roselle Chartock, each episode will delve into LitNet’s past, present, and future by featuring learners, tutors, individuals significant to the organization’s history and development, community leaders, educational professionals, and more.

The show’s goal is to spread awareness of the work LitNet does, to delve into topics surrounding adult- and ESOL-education, and to inform the community of how they might become involved with the organization. The first episode, “Tutor Talk,” will air on January 24 at 1:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. This and future episodes will air each Sunday at 1:30 p.m. and 6 p.m., and re-air on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. and the following Saturday at 1:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. Viewers can watch on Spectrum Cable Channel 1302 and the CTSB website, or check in at www.litnetsb.org for other ways to watch.
