manchester_by_the_seaGreat Barrington — On Friday, Dec. 30, producer Chris Moore will be in attendance at the Triplex Cinema for a question-and-answer session following the 5:20 p.m. screening of his new film “Manchester by the Sea.” In addition to his work on “Manchester by the Sea,” Moore co-produced “Good Will Hunting” and the television series “Project Greenlight” with Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, and also produced the “American Pie” films. Austen Riggs Center to host community forum

Stockbridge — The Austen Riggs Center’s Erikson Institute for Education and Research will present the community forum “Facing a New Year and a Changing World Together” on Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2017, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Austen Riggs Center.

The forum is an opportunity to gather as a community to understand how changing political and social contexts affect individuals, groups and organizations in the local area, as well as to find a way to build partnerships and work together for the common good. Facilitators for the event will include Erikson Institute Director Jane G. Tillman, Ph.D.; Therapeutic Community Program Director Donna Elmendorf, Ph.D.; and Medical Director/CEO Andrew J. Gerber, M.D., Ph.D.

Senior nutrition workshop to be offered

Pittsfield — On Thursday, Jan. 5, 2017, at 10:45 a.m., the Jewish Federation of the Berkshires will welcome Thea Basis, a certified senior fitness specialist, who will present the next installment in the “Silver Wellness and Nutrition for Seniors” drop-in series at Congregation Knesset Israel.

Basis will lead attendees in discussion about the importance of keeping a healthy muscle mass for metabolic health and independent living and guide them through specific exercises for each major muscle group, focusing on improving cardio-respiratory health and balance and including basic movements of daily living activities. Basis specializes in the conditions that make exercising more challenging including arthritis, fragility, balance and gait issues, respiratory disease, diabetes, and lack of motivation. She is also an orthopedic exercise specialist serving groups and individuals in promoting healthy, independent lifestyles while addressing the unique challenges of aging.

Sheffield Land Trust to offer guided ski/hike

Ashley Falls — On Saturday, Dec. 31, at 1 p.m., the Sheffield Land Trust will present a guided cross-country ski–or hike in the woods if there isn’t enough snow for skiing–at its Ashley Falls Woods property. The ski/hike is free and open to the public. Those interested in participating should wear warm clothes and appropriate foot gear and meet leader Neal Chamberlain at the entrance opposite the Herb Barn one quarter mile north of the village green on Route 7A.
