Hudson, N.Y.— On Saturday, September 21st and Sunday, September 22nd at 3 p.m., Columbia County Players (CCP) presents a staged reading (with music) of “The Clan of the MacQuillins,” a historical family drama by local playwright John Paul Porter at the Churchtown Dairy Round Barn. 

“The Clan of the MacQuillins” is an epic tale in twelve scenes set in Scotland, Ireland, and the New World of the 17th century. Based on a legend in the author’s family, the story unfolds around a broken romance, a blood feud, and fate, which always makes certain each of us will have to shoulder one unique burden in life, the one most uniquely difficult for each of us to bear.

The performances are Saturday, September 21st and Sunday, September 22nd at 3 p.m. at the Round Barn at Churchtown Dairy at 357 County Road 12 in Hudson, N.Y. Admission is free; no reservations are required. More information can be found online.

New Marlborough Meeting House presents the award-winning, internationally renowned electroacoustic duo, Arkai

New Marlborough— On Saturday, September 21st at 4:30 p.m., New Marlborough Meeting House presents the award-winning, internationally renowned electroacoustic duo, Arkai.

Arkai graces the Meeting House stage before they head out on their world tour, including stops in Berlin, Toronto and Marrakesh. The two members of Arkai, playing electrified violin and cello as well as electric violin and cello (you’ll see and hear the difference at the concert) are graduates of the prestigious Juilliard School. They light up the stage with their infectious personalities and have inspired and thrilled audiences of all ages around the world with their genre-defying string music.

Berkshire Bach presents the annual Berkshire Bach Harpsichord Festival at Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church in Stockbridge

Stockbridge— On Saturday, September 21st and Saturday, October 19th at 4 p.m., Berkshire Bach presents the annual Berkshire Bach Harpsichord Festival at Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church in Stockbridge.

On Saturday, September 21st at 4 p.m., Peter Sykes celebrates his 50-year career with an anniversary concert commemorating his public debut in 1974 and plays a virtuosic program of music from the 17th to the 21st centuries. On Saturday, October 19th at 4 p.m., the festival continues with Eliiot Figg and Caitlyn Koester, who will play “Skeletons of the Opera,” a delightful program of transcriptions of Baroque opera.

American Mural Project presents Emmy-Award winner, news anchor, and author Sarah Cody

Winsted, Conn.— On Sunday, September 22nd at 3 p.m., the American Mural Project (AMP) will host Emmy Award-winning news anchor Sarah Cody for a “Travel Talk & Book Signing.”

Cody will present her new book “Around Every Corner in Connecticut” and share some of her favorite fall travel destinations across the state, accompanied by a slideshow of her expedition photography.

Cody is well-known for her television segments “8 Things To Do This Weekend” and “Connecticut Families,” where she highlights scenic destinations and activities throughout Connecticut. Featured in Sarah’s book as a top destination, the American Mural Project (AMP) is home to the indoor “Art of Work” mural, a grand-scale tribute to diverse American workers. The larger-than-life mural (five stories high and 120 feet long) viewable from three levels within a renovated mill building.

The talk is on Sunday, September 22nd at 3 p.m. at American Mural Project at 90 Whiting Street in Winsted, Conn. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early to explore AMP’s mural exhibit before the talk. A book signing will follow the talk. More information can be found online.

18th annual ‘Distinguished Lecture Series’ at Lenox Library

Lenox— On Sunday, September 22nd at 4 p.m., the Lenox Library presents a discussion of the upcoming election with Dr. Michael Hannahan to open their 18th season of its Distinguished Lecture Series, organized and hosted by Dr. Jeremy Yudkin.

Michael Hannahan, PhD, is on the faculty of the Department of Political Science at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. He is Director of the Donahue Institute, which works to advance equity and social justice, foster healthy communities, and promote opportunities. He has managed over 50 exchange programs in dozens of countries, including Croatia, Russia, Chile, the Czech Republic, Turkey, and Bulgaria. He has given talks in Pakistan, Iraq, Indonesia, and Argentina. He has worked for political parties and has managed campaigns and political consulting firms. He teaches courses on American Government, American Political Thought, and Campaign Finance and Reform. Dr. Hannahan received his master’s degree and Ph.D. from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and his bachelor’s degree from Miami University.

The Lenox Library’s Distinguished Lecture Series will continue as follows:

  • October 20th: Paul Catanzaro, Co-Director of the Family Forest Research Center
  • November 14th: Smitty Pignatelli, State Representative and Lenox Interim Town Manager
  • January 26th: Tom Bernard, President and CEO of the Berkshire United Way
  • February 23rd: Jerald Walker, Writer and Professor of Creative Writing at Emerson College
  • March 23rd: James Hatt, Attorney and Member of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office of the United Kingdom
  • April 27th: Francisca Oyogoa, Assistant Professor in Sociology and African American Studies at Bard College at Simon’s Rock

All lectures will take place at 4:00 p.m. at the Lenox Library at 18 Main Street in Lenox. They are free and open to the public. More information can be found online.

West Stockbridge Historical Society Housatonic Heritage Walk explores Albany Road

West Stockbridge— On Saturday, September 21st from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., West Stockbridge Historical Society Housatonic Heritage Walk explores Albany Road.

Join Bob Salerno of the West Stockbridge Historical Society to explore Albany Road (Route 41,) one of the main roads leading from West Stockbridge to Richmond. This former “Indian” trail became the key route to the west and north. The structures along the road reflect the town’s history, from commercial and industrial activity to immigration waves, and even an early constitutional challenge to slavery.

The walk is on Saturday, September 21st from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Park and meet behind St. Patrick’s Catholic Church on Route 41 in West Stockbridge. The walk is 1.5 hours and covers 3/4 of a mile. There will be a reception after the walk at the Old Town Hall. Reservations and more information can be found online.

West Stockbridge Library presents Golden Retriever Operation K9 therapy dog Paprika

West Stockbridge— On Saturday September 21st at 11 a.m., West Stockbridge Library presents Golden Retriever Operation K9 therapy dog Paprika, known as “Rika.” 

Rika, who works with Veterans and others, and her handler Deb will be visiting the library to meet with patrons of all ages.

The event is on Saturday September 21st at 11 a.m. at the West Stockbridge Library at 21 Stateline Road in West Stockbridge. More information can be found online.

Lenox— On Saturday, September 21st from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., please join the Town of Lenox on to think about the downtown village of tomorrow.

The village has been supporting and welcoming residents, businesses and visitors since the 18th century. What will it look like next year, in five years, in ten years, in twenty years?
