Great Barrington – The Great Barrington Cultural Council presents a free summer concert series at the Bandstand. July 3: David Reed Trio; July 10: Housatonic Philharmonic; July 17: Sam Rosen and Vikki True; July 24: Music in the Moment; July 31: Wanda Houston Band; August 7: Bad Neighbors; August 14: Moonshine Holler; August 28: Lee Rogers & Eric Reinhardt; September 4: Bobby Sweet Band.
David Grover and Grover’s Gang will perform every Saturday in July and August at 10 a.m.

Russian artist Anton Lyalin at Sohn Fine Art Gallery
Lenox – Sohn Fine Art Gallery is pleased to present a solo exhibition, Portrait of Africa, by Russian photographer Anton Lyalin in his U.S. debut. Featured in the exhibition are large-scale black-and-white portrait photographs of wild animals in their natural environments. The exhibition is on view at Sohn Fine Art Gallery through July 27, with an artist talk from 3PM – 4PM and a book signing and reception from 4 – 7 p.m. on July 11th.

Excavating History: Making Art at the Olana State Historic Site
Hudson – Professor, artist, writer, and museum educator Rebecca Keller will present a day-long workshop exploring the idea of history, specifically personal histories, at the Olana State Historic Site. “Excavating History” will take place on July 1st, from 10 a.m to 4 p.m. The cost of the workshop is $70, $65 for members, and we ask that you bring a bagged lunch and some memorabilia. This is a great program for parents and teenagers, just teens, or adults with an interest trying a new art-making technique with a nationally known educator/artist.
Rebecca Keller is a professor at School of the Art Institute of Chicago, as well as an artist, writer, and museum educator. She is a Fulbright Scholar (2002-03) and has received awards from the National Endowment of the Arts and the Illinois Arts Council, along with many others. She will lead participants through a process of turning personal histories into creative works of writing and visual art, and asks that participants bring old photographs, keepsakes, objects, letters, and/or other ephemera from which to draw inspiration.

St. Paul’s Church welcomes new priest
Stockbridge – The vestry of St. Paul’s Church has called the Rev. Samuel J. Smith of New York to be its next Priest-in-Charge. He succeeds the Rev. Tom Damrosch who retired in January. His first Sunday at St. Paul’s will be August 2.
The Rev. Smith has served St. Michael’s Church on the Upper West Side of Manhattan as its assistant priest since July 2013. Prior to serving at St. Michael’s he was the Director of Programs for Episcopal Charities, the outreach arm of the Diocese of New York. He also served as the Interim Priest at Holy Trinity Church in the Inwood neighborhood of Manhattan, and as an assisting priest at the Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine.
A native of Texas, Sam is the son of a United Methodist pastor. Before beginning his vocation in the church, he worked in professional opera for 17 years, primarily in the areas of administration and communications. He holds degrees from Southwestern University, Indiana University, and General Theological Seminary.
Sam comes to Stockbridge from Harlem with his husband, Don, who is currently a fundraising professional working for the Board of Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church. Sam and Don are avid theater-goers and they enjoy all kinds of cultural activities.
