Camphill Ghent to present traditional Christmas play

Chatham, N.Y. — The public is invited to attend a traditional Oberufer Shepherd’s Play on Sunday, December 20 at 4 p.m. in Camphill Ghent’s Culture Hall. The performance is free although donations will be gratefully accepted. The play will be performed by Camphill Ghent residents and staff and is an annual tradition to celebrate the Christmas holiday.

The roots of the Oberufer plays are lost in medieval times, but have evolved to incorporate a unique mix of broad peasant humor and deep reverence in their celebration of the birth of Jesus. The Shepherd’s Play is one of many religious plays started on the island of Oberufer near the border of Austria and Hungary in the 16th century.

CONCERT REVIEW: Skye Consort & Emma Björling at The Foundry, Oct. 1

Lots of groups combine elements of music from Scandinavia, Ireland, Scotland, England, and French Canada. None of them do it like Skye Consort.

The first two great American poets…both women

The first two great American poets were both women. Neither of them was named Emily Dickinson, who came later. And one of them was a black slave born in Africa.

THEATER REVIEW: Berkshire Theatre Group’s production of ‘The Weir’ plays through Oct. 27

Storytelling is an art form that the Irish have perfected, and McPherson’s play takes deep advantage of that. This production requires your attention. You may find yourself leaning forward a lot, in order to take in every word.
