Betty Arnold, 83, of Becket, owner of Tollgate Inn

While living in Sandisfield, she worked at New Boston Nursing Home for 18 years. She also owned and operated the Tollgate Inn for 25 years. She took much enjoyment in gardening, traveling, crafting and especially painting.

Betty Arnold, 83, of Becket, passed away peacefully on, Friday March 20, 2015 at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield, Massachusetts.

She was born in Greenwich, Connecticut, on January 28, 1932, the daughter of Earl Leighton and Lucy (Janke) Shaw. She spent her early childhood years in Connecticut and then moved to Florida graduating from Clearwater High School.

She raised her family in Florida, moving to Sandisfield, Massachusetts in the early 1970’s. While living in Sandisfield, she worked at New Boston Nursing Home for 18 years. She also owned and operated the Tollgate Inn for 25 years. She took much enjoyment in gardening, traveling, crafting and especially painting.

Betty is survived by one son, Edward Arnold of Becket; one daughter, Betsy Arnold and partner Jeff Johnson of Great Barrington; one brother, Earl Shaw of Longs, S.C.; and one sister, Lois Christie of Tallahassee, Fla. She also leaves five grandchildren, Shana, Jeffrey, Bryan, Samantha and Jordan and five great grandchildren, Lila, Will, Abigail, Jackson and Maci. Betty was predeceased by two brothers, Edward Shaw and Robert Shaw.

Funeral Services for Betty will be held on Saturday March 28 at 11:30 a.m. at the BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME, 33 South St., Great Barrington, Mass. Burial will be at the Sandisfield Center at a later date. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:30-11:30 a.m. preceding the funeral on Saturday. In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy in Betty’s memory may be made to the Otis Ambulance Squad in care of the BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME 33 South St., Great Barrington, MA 01230. There will be a graveside service held on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at 12 p.m., in Mountain View Cemetery in Lenox. There will be no calling hours.

Robert ‘Bob’ Hebert, 89, of Monterey

Bob won over 100 races in his career. He was voted SVRA Driver of the Year. He was inducted into the Road Racing Drivers Club, along with such others as Mario Andretti and Stirling Moss. Today, two of Bob’s four grandchildren continue his racing legacy.
