Berkshire legislators should support passenger rail measure

In his letter James Mullen writres: “Rep. Smitty Pignatelli has been asked to sponsor the legislation, and we look forward to his sponsorship and to having the rest of the Berkshire delegation join him.”

To the Editor:

The Train Campaign, a nonprofit that has advocated for the revivification of passenger rail service to Berkshire County since 2011, is asking for your help. A proposed bill with huge importance for the future of Berkshire County calls for a holistic study of the economic and environmental impacts of bringing passenger train service back to Pittsfield, from both Boston and New York.

The deadline to file this legislation is Friday, January 18, 2019.  Rep. Smitty Pignatelli has been asked to sponsor the legislation, and we look forward to his sponsorship and to having the rest of the Berkshire delegation join him.

I am asking all those who support rail connectivity and accessibility and its significance as a catalyst for economic vitality and social equity bridging the urban rural transect, to contact Rep. Pignatelli urging him to sponsor this legislation. Additionally, if you would also send emails or phone calls to the remainder of our Congressional delegation as well. The links can be found at www.traincampaign.org. The full text of the proposed bill can found there also.

Politicians live by and have fealty to one very profound axiom. When they feel the heat, they see the light. Please contact Rep. Pignatelli and register your support for him to sponsor and file this bill.

Although Lou’s Section 9 chair will be occupied by others in coming seasons, for us who loved him, we will always remember it as the seat of the “Mayor of Tanglewood.”
