Berkshire County — The Healy-Driscoll administration announced on Monday, November 27 that it has awarded $800,000 in grants to support the efforts of 10 regional Buy Local organizations that work to help generate consumer awareness and demand for locally grown food products.
In a press release issued by the administration, it announced that the 10 organizations that received the grants all work to generate consumer awareness for locally grown food products and support regional farmers. The Berkshire Grown organization, which is the only organization in Berkshire County to receive a grant, received $91,477 in funds from the state.
According to the organization’s website, the mission of Berkshire Grown is to support and promote local agriculture as a vital part of the Berkshire County community. The organization will use the grant funds to “strengthen collaborative initiatives that address food security in the Berkshires and increase connections between Berkshire farms and non-traditional community partners to make locally grown food available to all members of the Berkshire community.”
