Berkshire County — On Wednesday, April 3, due to a storm that impacted the area, customers of Spectrum internet services reported outages.
According to company Vice President of Communications Lara Pritchard, the outage was due to a fiber break in the network as a result of physical damage incurred during the storm.
“Our teams had to wait until the area was cleared of downed commercial power lines and deemed safe, before gaining access to start to assess the damage,” Pritchard wrote to The Berkshire Edge in an email. “Typically, a fiber break involves the very detailed and time-consuming effort of the splicing of several hundred small strands of fiber to get the network back online. This damage directly impacted network ‘hubs’ that service the Pittsfield and Lee areas.”
Pritchard wrote that all customers eventually had their Internet service restored.
“It’s important to keep in mind that there was a significant loss of commercial power throughout areas,” Pritchard wrote. “The loss of commercial power in areas will cause an interruption in Spectrum service.”
