BCD students express determination to reverse climate change

Why Are We Striking? Because we are hoping for change in our world. We are not striking because it is what we should do, but because it’s what we have to do. We now have no choice. -- Danny C.

Lenox – Joining millions of their fellow students worldwide, middle and upper school students at Berkshire Country Day School left classes Friday (September 20) to express their dismay at a warming world and the unwillingness of the adult political leadership to initiate steps to reverse the climate change that threatens their generation.

Below are statements from nine sixth graders in Jana Laiz’s BCD class imploring adults to take action:

Save the Earth now!!

Why we are fighting against climate change.

We are striking because our earth is dying. We have tried to warn everyone in the world to stop polluting and harming our home. It has just gotten worse and worse over our whole lives. If we continue like this we will lose control over climate change. This problem will be irreversible. There is no planet B. This is our home. Save it or lose it. This is our one chance to show we care. BCD is striking because this school cares. Because I care. If you’re sitting on your couch watching TV saying, “What do I have to lose? Why should I care about climate change?” Well , I’ll tell you what you have to lose and why you should care. You will lose your family, friends, and everything you love including that precious little TV you’re watching instead. You’ll lose your dog that is sleeping in its bed by the fire. You name it. It will be gone if you don’t help us NOW. You can help make a difference. If you’re not helping, then it’s your fault Earth’s in trouble. As I said before, either save it, or lose it, people.

Why we are fighting for climate justice

I am going to a climate strike and this is why: My friends and I all want action. Other people might think…   Well, climate change isn’t that severe. Well guess what, other people just like you thought that 100 years ago. But it has gotten MUCH worse since then. So act up because you don’t want to know that your descendants will die of climate change.

Why we are striking

On the 20th of September we are going to the center of Great Barrington for a climate strike we are striking for change to stop using fossil fuels, stop burning down forests, stop killing animals and polluting. Glaciers are melting and oceans are rising. We are striking to find solutions and different and better ways to recycle and stop filling our oceans with trash we don’t want to worry about our grandchildren dying from climate change. Our world is dying and we are the problem think, do you want to live or die? To think that children can step forward and realize what’s happening to our world and try to make a change is amazing but our government is not stepping forward so we the people must join together to demand climate justice and build a better future for all.

End climate change

We are going on strike to raise awareness in the Berkshires but more importantly, around the world. Many species of animals are dying each day because their habitats are being burned down. Oceans are rising, garbage and plastic is building up. Are land is becoming smaller and we are losing many islands were people and families are going to have to relocate. There is not a lot of clean water anymore. We need to keep the carbon in the soil, we need to not use fossil fuels. This is a big issue that people don’t pay much attention to this problem that mother earth is furious with the way we have been treated her. It’s going to be a lot of work but your children and grandchildren are going to thank you later. We need to work together and make a stand, we don’t have a lot of time but we have enough time to change are habits.

Why are we striking?

We are going to Great Barrington to protest climate change and if we succeed, our generation and all the generations that come after us will have great lives and will not worry about the Earth being destroyed. If we don’t do anything and continue on this destructive path, our Earth will die. We must stop hurting this beautiful planet.

~ Aiden T.

Why are we striking?

Our planet is dying.

We are striking because THIS NEEDS TO STOP. Our planet needs our help. Water levels are rising. Forests burning. Glaciers melting. And our world leaders are sticking their tongues out at it and eating bacon. Why is this happening?!?

WE KNOW BETTER.

We are striking to demand climate justice. To make them see. And to save our earth before it’s too late.

~ Ellie D.

Why Are We Striking?

Because we are hoping for change in our world. Not because we think that it is just a thing to do or because we’re saving our children’s children’s children. No, we are striking because this is literally eating away at my life, my kids’ life, your life, and your kid’s life. We are not striking because it is what we should do, but because it’s what we have to do. We now have no choice. We have waited for something to happen, years ago and still today. There is nothing that can stop us from striking now, with more facts and science on our side then our brains can process.

~Danny C.

Why are we striking?

We are striking for climate. We want a better future for everyone and for our generations to come. A generation full of animals and nature and no melting icebergs. Animals are dying everywhere and we are polluting their homes and our mother Gaia. We are burning down forests to make room for factories full of addictive things that have taken over our earth.

We want JUSTICE. And we want it NOW.

~ Orli W.

Why We Are Striking

We are striking because our planet is slowly heating up and melting, literally.

Ice is melting, animals are becoming extinct and oceans are rising. Our Rainforest are getting burned down. If we are not helping then it is our fault it is happening. Our oceans are filling up with garbage. Our land is shrinking but the garbage lands in the middle of the oceans are growing. Habitats under and above the water are getting destroyed every day. Not just animals habitats but houses and islands are being destroyed by the hurricanes being stronger than ever because of climate change. Our air is also slowly becoming dirtier and dirtier because we are bringing the fossil fuels out of the ground and into the air. One last thing, think about your dog or cat or your friends bunny they are breathing the same air everything else is. We are striking for climate justice.
