Barenaked Ladies will appear at Tanglewood on July 8 with Sugar Ray and Fastball

Archives of the Boston Symphony Orchestra contain no prior record of Barenaked Ladies appearing at Tanglewood or Symphony Hall.

Lenox — Tickets go on sale February 18 at 10 a.m. for the Barenaked Ladies with Sugar Ray and Fastball at Tanglewood on July 8.

On their 2025 Last Summer On Earth Tour, Barenaked Ladies is bringing two well-known bands to open their shows: Sugar Ray and Fastball.

The Barenaked Ladies have a reputation for writing catchy, humorous, and often quirky songs that blend rock, pop, and folk influences, and they are widely considered one of the most entertaining rock acts in the business.

There is no nudity in a Barenaked Ladies show. The band is entirely family friendly. But beware of biting humor. Their song titles give you a clue: “If I Had $1,000,000,” “Be My Yoko Ono,” “Never Do Anything,” “Who Needs Sleep?,” and “Alternative Girlfriend” are a tiny sampling of the wit for which they are famous.

Archives of the Boston Symphony Orchestra contain no prior record of Barenaked Ladies appearing at Tanglewood or Symphony Hall. So these newcomers are making their debut after selling 15 million albums and singles over a period of 37 years, winning multiple Juno awards, receiving two Grammy nominations, and getting inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame. They also provided the theme song for the American sitcom “The Big Bang Theory.”

Sugar Ray is best known for its reggae-infused hit “Fly” from the album “Floored,” which was the release that put the group on the map nationally. The band started with a harder, more aggressive sound influenced by punk, alternative rock, and funk metal, but it transitioned to the more radio-friendly pop-rock sound the group is known for today.

Fastball’s 1998 album “All the Pain Money Can Buy” brought them their first breakout success. The album featured “The Way,” a story song about the misfortunes of an elderly couple who disappeared on a road trip. The track was a big radio hit, and it earned them a Grammy nomination and multi-platinum status.

It is that time of year when popular artist bookings at Tanglewood proliferate like bunnies. Here is the latest lineup:

  • June 21 — A Prairie Home Companion
  • July 3, 4 — James Taylor with special guest Tiny Habits
  • July 8 — Barenaked Ladies with special guests Sugar Ray and Fastball
  • July 29 — A Very Special Evening with Emmylou Harris & Graham Nash
  • August 28 — Wait Wait… Don’t Tell Me!
  • August 31 — Bonnie Raitt with special guest Jimmie Vaughan & The Tilt-A-Whirl Band

Tickets for Barenaked Ladies, Sugar Ray, and Fastball at Tanglewood go on sale February 18 at 10 a.m. on Tanglewood’s website and (888) 266-1200.

FILM REVIEW: Francois Ozon’s ‘When Fall Is Coming’

Nothing is ever that harmonious in Ozon’s world. There is always a twist at the center of the supposed concord or a dark side to a character who seems utterly benign.
