Barbara Jean Martin, 76, of Housatonic

Barbara worked at Country Curtains in Housatonic and as an operator for New England Telephone.

Barbara Jean Martin, 76, of Housatonic died Monday, February 8, 2016, at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield. Barbara was born on November 25, 1939 in Great Barrington, the daughter of Oliver and Ethel (McCormick) Curtiss. She was a 1957 graduate of the former Searles High School. Barbara worked at Country Curtains in Housatonic and as an operator for New England Telephone. Barbara enjoyed cards and bingo.

Barbara is survived by her husband Thomas H. Martin whom she married on August 11, 1961 in Corpus Christi Church in Housatonic; three sons Thomas H. Martin Jr. of Housatonic, James J. Martin of Oakland Park, Fla., and Jeffrey S. Martin of Ashley Falls; and two sisters Ann Pruhenski of Housatonic and Eleanor Makarski of Housatonic. Barbara was predeceased by her sisters Shirley Eichstedt and Helen Hardy; her brother Oliver Curtiss Jr.; and her grandson Jeffrey Martin, Jr.

Funeral services for Barbara Jean Martin will be held on Thursday, February 11, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Blessed Theresa of Calcutta Parish, Corpus Christi Church in Housatonic with Reverend William P. Murphy Pastor officiating. Burial will follow in Saint Bridget’s Cemetery in Housatonic. The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 11, from 8:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. at the BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME, 33 South St., Great Barrington, MA 01230.
