Barbara Ellen Shultis, 70, of South Egremont

She worked at Simon’s Rock for more than 30 years. She started in housekeeping, then to secretary, then to Director of Plant Operations.

Barbara Ellen Shultis, 70, of South Egremont passed away Tuesday, January 17, 2023 at Brigham Women’s Hospital in Boston. Barbara was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. on August 16, 1952, daughter of Robert and Patricia (Spadora) Rumovicz.

She worked at Simon’s Rock for more than 30 years. She started in housekeeping, then to secretary, then to Director of Plant Operations. Barbara was an active communicant of St. Peter’s Church in Great Barrington, where she was a first communion teacher for many years, a lector, a Eucharistic Minister, and was president of the Women’s Guild. Barbara also served with the election polls in Egremont and was an avid reader of mystery books. Barbara was predeceased by her husband, Owen “Corky” Shultis, and her daughter, Kelly Ann Sullivan. Barbara is survived by her brother, Robert Rumovicz and wife Susan of New Berlin, N.Y.; her sister, Robin Gundlach of Winchester Center, Conn.; and her two cats, Jett and Finnigan.

Funeral services for Barbara Ellen Shultis will be held on Tuesday, January 24 at 10 a.m. with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at Saint Peter’s Church in Great Barrington. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery in Egremont. Family will receive friends on Monday, January 23 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Birches Roy Funeral Home, 33 South Street, Great Barrington, MA. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in Barbara’s memory may be made to the Berkshire Humane Society or AnimalKind in care of the funeral home. Condolences may be made through the funeral home’s website.
