Jan Hutchinson has gravitated toward the reading and writing of poetry for over sixty years. Though publication has never been her focus, she has two poetry collections in print: Poems of Prayer and Heresy and raggedy prayers and crooked ladders (from UUMSB), both with whimsical drawings by the late Stockbridge artist Chet Kalm.
Through recent decades she has given workshops and readings, mostly locally, and taught generative writing to groups of homeschool students and elders. Jan raised three daughters in the Berkshires and has worked, in various capacities, at Bard College at Simon’s Rock for thirty years. Currently, she is partially retired but serving at Simon’s Rock as a writing tutor and academic advisor.
