A small group of veterans traveled to all the cemeteries in Otis and Sandisfield, paying respects to fallen veterans.

The funeral will be held on Thursday, May 30, at Birches-Roy Funeral Home. Calling hours will begin at 10 a.m. A short service will be held at 11 a.m., with burial to follow at Elmwood Cemetery.

Virginia M. ‘Ginger’ Vahle, 91, of Lenox

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Ann Church on Friday, June 1, 2024, at 10 a.m., by the Rev. Monsignor John J. Bonzagni, Pastor. Burial will follow in St. Ann Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Friday, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the Roche Funeral Home.

Brooks Carter White, 90, of West Stockbridge

A memorial service is planned in late August with details to follow.

Joan Elizabeth Hotaling, 83, of New Marlborough

Funeral Services for Joan Elizabeth Hotaling will be held on Wednesday, May 29, at 11 a.m., at the Old Parish Church in Sheffield, with Reverend Jill Graham officiating. Burial will follow in Carroll Cemetery in New Marlborough. Family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 28, from 4 to 6 p.m., at Birches-Roy Funeral Home.

Murphy will be held on Saturday, May 25, at 10 a.m., at Corpus Christi Church, Saint Teresa of Calcutta Parish in Housatonic, with Reverend William P. Murphy officiating. Burial will follow in Saint Bridget’s Cemetery in Housatonic. Family will receive friends on Saturday, May 25, from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m., at the Birches-Roy Funeral Home.

George Robert Minkoff, 81, of Alford

Funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 23, 2024, at 10 a.m., at Finnerty & Stevens Funeral Home, conducted by Rabbi Barbara Cohen.

Vera Edelman, 100, of Southfield

To celebrate Vera’s life, the family will gather at The United Church of New Marlborough (AKA The Southfield Church) at 2 p.m. on May 29, followed by a private burial.

George H. Mielke Jr., 68, of Sheffield

Donations in memory of George may be made to the Berkshire Humane Society in care of Finnerty & Stevens Funeral Home.

Richard E. Gendreau, 69, of Sandisfield

Services and burial will be held privately at the convenience of the family.

Berkshire County Historical Society receives preservation grants

“We are thankful to Jane and Jack Fitzpatrick Fund, Preservation Massachusetts, and the 1772 Foundation for their support of restoration projects at Arrowhead,” said BCHS Executive Director Lesley Herzberg. “Because of their support, and the support of other donors, we are able to create a more authentic experience of Herman Melville’s home for visitors from all over the world.”
