News and Ideas Worth Sharing

AT THE TRIPLEX: Week of June 23, 2023

A weekly update on what's happening at The Triplex.

Exciting news! Gregory Crewdson’s benefit print sale, in partnership with Aperture, has resulted in a gift of over $225,000 to help save the Triplex, in addition to a meaningful gift for Aperture as well. We’re deeply appreciative of the immense generosity of Gregory’s donation and his incredible commitment to our theater. The evocative picture, released for the first time, made in 2003, features Lauren Ambrose, also a supporter of the Triplex. Our deepest thanks go to Gregory and his partner Juliane Hiam as well as Kellie McLaughlin at Aperture for all their efforts to make this donation possible.

On another exciting note, Lisa Myers, an acclaimed production designer known for her work on films like “Robot & Frank,” “Bros,” “Someone Great” and the upcoming Netflix series “Survival of the Thickest,” has volunteered her time (when she’s not on location) to give the Triplex a fresher look.  Lisa, a Great Barrington native, said, “I’ve been coming to the Triplex my entire life and it’s an honor to be able to take part in helping the Triplex and revitalizing the community.” On Saturday, Lisa walked through the theater with her long-time friend Ben Elliott, the Triplex’s Managing Director, taking photos to create 3D renderings of what the new theater might look like.

And those are just two of the many things that have been moving forward at the theater this week.

Allegrone’s team came and went through the Triplex. Ben and Steve Johnson (the former assistant manager to the Triplex) did a complete inventory of what was in the theater, plus there were fundraising, grant writing and design meetings. We’re hoping to unveil some new signage next week in front of the Triplex. Keep an eye out for it!

Next Tuesday morning, we have invited local business owners to the theater to share what our vision for the Triplex is. We hope to listen to their thoughts on how we might be able to help the local business community and how they might be able to partner with us. If you are a business owner in South County who did not receive an invitation and would like to attend this gathering, please email us at savethetriplex@gmail.com. There will be donuts and cider courtesy of Taft Farm.

With Gregory Crewdson’s donation, we have now raised close to $600k, with $1.3 million left to raise.  If you would like to know more about how to donate or what you can do to help save the Triplex, please visit savethetriplex.org.

It is clear that the current artistic directors of Pilobolus are attempting to carry on the troupe's initial vision, in the same collaborative fashion, albeit with differing degrees of success.
