To the editor:
I was shocked to read Terry Cowgill’s characterization of Ed Abrahams’ personal life and relationships in a recent article about possible conflicts of interest and found them to be distasteful and unnecessarily intrusive.
Comments about Abrahams’ life (“shares his home and is romantically involved with…”) should have been omitted from an article about voting and conflicts of interest by a member of our Board of Selectmen. The story could have been written without these comments, perhaps using different phrasing such as “his partner.”Â
Lifting a personal photo of Ed and Penny from his Facebook account is not illegal but certainly feels like an invasion of their privacy.Â
“Reached this morning, Davis declined to comment, as did several of Abrahams’ detractors on this issue.” Was this comment ethical? Was it a way to hint that he has many detractors? Is Terry letting us know that he dislikes Ed?Â
I hold Edge editors accountable for this example of unnecessary malicious writing.
