Anne Marie Comerford, 74, of Great Barrington

Funeral Mass for Anne Marie Comerford will be held on Monday, May 5, 2025, at 10 a.m., with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at Saint Peter’s Church, with Reverend William P. Murphy Pastor officiating. Burial will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery.

Anne Marie Comerford, 74, of Great Barrington, died Saturday, April 26, 2025, at Fairview Commons in Great Barrington. She was born in Great Barrington on December 25, 1950, the daughter of the late James J. and Catherine (Byrne) Comerford.

Anne was a graduate of Monument Mountain Regional High School in the class of 1969 and went on to Tennessee at Martin, where she received a B.S. in physical education in 1974, then receiving her master’s degree from B.B.C. university in 1976.

Anne worked for many years as a special education coach and teacher. She coached varsity soccer for Monument Mountain Regional High School’s girl’s team and won numerous awards from 1977 to 1990; was a swimming instructor for over 50 years; and worked with the Special Olympics for over 30 years as one of three event directors.

Anne enjoyed visits to her condo in Florida and to Cape Cod.

Anne is survived by many cousins, among them Ann Elizabeth Taff and husband Dave, Charles Byrne and wife Marilyn, Robert Byrne and wife Roseanne, John Byrne and wife Marie, and Joe Byrne, as well as many close friends. In addition to her parents, Anne was predeceased by her brother James J. Comerford Jr.

Funeral Mass for Anne Marie Comerford will be held on Monday, May 5, 2025, at 10 a.m., with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at Saint Peter’s Church, with Reverend William P. Murphy Pastor officiating. Burial will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Monday, May 5, from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m., at the Birches-Roy Funeral Home, 33 South St., Great Barrington, MA 01230. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in Anne’s memory may be made to either St. Peter’s Restoration Fund, Special Olympics, or HospiceCare in the Berkshires. Condolences may be made through the funeral home’s website.

The funeral for Mr. Francis T. Duke will be held on Friday, May 16, at 11 a.m., at Trinity Church in Lenox, with Rev. Michael Tuck officiating. Burial will be private in Corashire Cemetery in Monterey. There will be no calling hours.
