Ann Baumann Costa, 89, of Great Barrington

Ann always believed that her greatest accomplishment and joy was taking care of her big family and walking hand in hand with Tony, admiring their beautiful yard.

Ann Louise Baumann Costa, 89, of 70 Division St. in Great Barrington, Mass., died Tuesday, June 27, at home with her loving family at her side.

Ann was born in Pittsfield on Aug. 29, 1927, to Louise Meier Baumann and George M. Baumann, moving to Housatonic as a young child. She attended the former Housatonic Grammar School and graduated from Searles High School in June 1945. While in high school, she worked after school at the former Monument Mills in Housatonic. Upon graduating, Ann was employed at the New England Telephone Company. She later met Anthony (Tony) Costa and married in 1947. Tony passed away on Feb. 4, 2013, just days before their 66th wedding anniversary on Valentine’s Day.

Ann always believed that her greatest accomplishment and joy was taking care of her big family and walking hand in hand with Tony, admiring their beautiful yard. That is all she ever wanted. Ann’s family misses her very much but knows that she is happy again to be in Tony’s loving arms, walking hand in hand in Heaven’s gardens with daughter Jackie by their side.

Ann is survived by her children Anthony Jr. of Lewiston, Maine; John Costa and wife Jane of Great Barrington; James Costa of Newtown, Connecticut; Mark Costa and wife Diane Clark of New Marlborough; Terri Costa Everett and husband Will of Worcester; Michelle Loubert and husband Bruce of Housatonic; and Patricia Costa of Great Barrington. Ann and Tony’s beautiful daughter Jackie passed away in January 2017. Ann is also survived by nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A granddaughter Sarah predeceased her. Her surviving brothers and sisters are Patricia Ciolina, Joan Clark, Mary Whitbeck, Joseph Baumann, Gerald Baumann and Peter Baumann. Her brothers Thomas, James, George and John Baumann predeceased her. Ann also is survived by many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Ann Louise Baumann Costa will be held on Saturday, July 1, at 10 a.m. with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at St. Peter’s Church with the Rev. William P. Murphy, pastor, officiating. Prior to the service, the Costas will receive family and friends from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the Birches-Roy Funeral Home, 33 South St., Great Barrington MA 01230. Following the service, Ann will be laid to rest next to Tony and Jackie at St. Peter’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in Ann’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or HospiceCare in the Berkshires Inc. in care of the Birches-Roy Funeral Home.
