Andrew P. Maguire, 60, of Pittsfield

Andrew worked as a cook for Berkshire Place for 34 years, until his retirement in 2019. He would visit the residents often to be sure their meals were up to par.

Andrew P. Maguire, 60, of Pittsfield died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2022 at Berkshire Medical Center after battling cancer for nine years.

Andrew was born on September 6, 1961 in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, to the late Thomas and Delrita Kretsch Maguire. He was a 1980 graduate of Lenox Memorial High School and attended Berkshire Community College, where he obtained his associate’s degree in hotel/restaurant management. Andrew worked as a cook for Berkshire Place for 34 years, until his retirement in 2019. He would visit the residents often to be sure their meals were up to par!

Andrew was an avid bowler. He raced his stock car at Lebanon Valley Speedway from 1984–1988 (#328 in street stock division) and continued to go to Lebanon Valley to cheer on family friends until last year when, due to his weakened state, he continued to watch and cheer from home thanks to Dirt Track Digest. He and his family participated in the Relay for Life year after year, which made him very proud.

Andrew was a member of the Lenox Dale Fire Department during his high school and college years. He was a soldier of the Salvation Army, to which he was proudly devoted, making weekly Sunday dinners. He loved his church family.

He married Doris Williams on August 26, 1989 in Lenox Dale.

Besides his wife Doris of Pittsfield, Andrew is survived by his children, Catherine D. Fulks (Andrew), Andrew P. Maguire (Viktoria), and Jason C. Maguire, all of Pittsfield; his sister Claudia M. Gilbert (Wayne) of Dalton; two grandchildren, Anastasia and Parker; and two grand-dogs, Tiny and Bluey. He also leaves his niece Delrita Fryer (Ryan) and Harley their dog of Hebron, Connecticut, and nephew Thomas Gilbert (Shauna) and their daughter Hazel of Seattle, Washington.

The funeral for Mr. Andrew P. Maguire will be held Saturday, Jan. 8, 2022 at 3 p.m. at the Salvation Army on West Street in Pittsfield. Calling hours will be held Thursday, Jan. 6, 2022 from 5–7 p.m. at the Roche Funeral Home, 120 Main Street, Lenox, MA 01240. Burial will be at a later date. Memorial donations in Andrew’s memory may be made to the Salvation Army in care of the funeral home.

The family would like to thank HospiceCare in the Berkshires, VNA of the Berkshires (especially Dawn), the nurses and Dr. Mullally at Hillcrest Cancer Center, Dr. McGregor from Dana Farber, Dr. Hetland, the EMTs and firefighters who helped Andrew over the past month, the ER nurses, and the doctors and nurses from 4th floor at Berkshire Medical Center.

Besides his parents and grandparents, Andrew is predeceased by his three brothers: Terrance, Thomas (Butch), and Kevin, and sister Delrita.
