Andrew C. Moro, 78, of Great Barrington

Funeral services for Andrew C. Moro will be held on Saturday, Jan. 3, at 10 a.m., at the Birches-Roy Funeral Home, with a service officiated by Fr. William P. Murphy. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Saint Peter’s Cemetery.

Andrew C. Moro, 78, of Great Barrington, died Friday, December 26, 2025, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Great Barrington on September 5, 1947, son of the late Catherine Moro Simpkins and his beloved Anna and Joe Pipa, who raised him. He graduated from the former Searles High School in the class of 1967.

Andrew C. Moro.

Andy retired as district manager of the Lee Division of Osterman Propane. Before that, he was the supervisor of operations at Berkshire Propane for 23 years, with responsibility for operations in New York, Massachusetts, and Vermont. He also worked for Del Virgillo Construction for 13 years as a foreman and an equipment operator. Andy was also a past member of New England Propane Gas Assoc. Education Safety Committee and a certified Employee Training Program trainer.

Andy was a lifelong man of faith and was an active member of Saint Teresa of Calcutta Church in Housatonic. He served in the United State Marine Corps during the Vietnam era. Andy believed everyone should serve their country and community and spent many years with the Great Barrington Fire Department. He retired after being a member for 25 years.

Andy enjoyed attending events his daughters were involved in, and this continued on with his granddaughters. He also enjoyed car racing, boating, and going to classic car shows with Poly Lanoue, Ray Palmucci, and Eddie Lord, whom he said were the best car show buddies anyone could ask for. He could be seen driving his 1966 Ford Fairlane GTA every chance he had. Most of all, he enjoyed politics; he was a member of the Berkshire County Republican Committee and the Great Barrington Town Committee. He was also a past member of the Great Barrington Selectboard, the Finance Committee, and the Berkshire Hills Regional School Committee. He was also the Great Barrington’s Veterans Grave Officer, as well as a past Veterans Services Representative to the Regional Director.

Andy took pride as the commander of the American Legion Post 298 of Housatonic, where he built lifelong friendships. He was a past treasurer of Olde Yankee Street Rods.

Kathryne, Andy’s wife of 50 years, passed away on January 5, 2022. They were married on April 17, 1971. Throughout their marriage, they raised two daughters, Angela Pevzner and husband Matt (whom Andy affectionately referred to as his “Day man”) of Great Barrington and Jenine Moro and husband Rick Rotti of Pittsfield. He also leaves behind his two granddaughters, Elizabeth Iemolini and her husband Matt of Great Barrington and Victoria Pevzner of Great Barrington. Andy always looked forward to spending endless hours with his granddaughters, both of whom he loved very much. He was extremely proud of them and always loved to tell people about all their accomplishments. Elizabeth and Victoria meant the world to him. He would often tell them, “Wherever I am, I will always be with you regardless of our location.” Family time was always a very important part of his life. He loved dinners and holidays spent together, and if they weren’t able to see each other daily, a simple phone call meant a lot.

Andy leaves his brother Louie Pipa of Summerfield, Fla.; his sisters, Debra Briggs (Bill) of Great Barrington and Linda Becket (Paul) of Dover Plains, N.Y., and his brother-in-law Chris Gaarn (Sally) of Sheffield. He leaves behind his lifetime best friends: John Broderick, Eddie Lord, Buddy Atwood, Larry Hankey, Will Brinker, and Marc Segan, all of Great Barrington; Phil Consolini of New Hampshire; and many more. He always carried his late friend Peter Zucco in his heart.

Funeral services for Andrew C. Moro will be held on Saturday, January 3, at 10 a.m., at the Birches-Roy Funeral Home, 33 South St., Great Barrington, MA, with a service officiated by Fr. William P. Murphy. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Saint Peter’s Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Saturday, January 3, from 7:30 to 10 a.m., at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in Andy’s memory may be made to the Corpus Christi Church Saint Teresa of Calcutta Parish Building Fund or HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of the funeral home. Condolences may be made through the funeral home’s website.
