Amelia (Mel) T. Koldys, 95, formerly of Housatonic

Mel worked for Home Gas for 30 years, retiring in 1987. She was also a hostess at the Red Lion Inn and The Shed, and enjoyed volunteering for church charity events, playing golf, reading, and gardening.

Amelia (Mel) T. Koldys, 95, formerly of Housatonic, died Monday, Jan. 17, 2022 at Laurel Lake Nursing Home in Lee.

Mel was born in West Stockbridge on April 9, 1926, the daughter of Antonio and Louise (Celadon) Biasin. She graduated with honors from the former Williams High School, class of 1944, where she was class treasurer, secretary, and a great basketball player.

Mel worked for Home Gas for 30 years, retiring in 1987. She was also a hostess at the Red Lion Inn and The Shed. Mel was a member of the former All Saints Church Rosary Sodality, a faithful member of the Corpus Christi Church, and All Saints Church, volunteering for multiple community charity events. She also enjoyed golf, and was an avid reader and a dedicated gardener who won first prize in a Housatonic garden competition.

Mel’s first husband Chester W. Koldys, whom she married on June 8, 1946, predeceased her on April 6, 1993. Her second husband Henry A. (Bud) Lawrence, whom she married December 27, 1996, predeceased her on June 30, 2016. Mel is survived by her son Frank Koldys of Great Barrington, daughter Barbara Capelli and beloved son-in-law Robert Wuhl of California, sisters Mary Censato of Laconia, New Hampshire and Norma Grant of Pittsfield, and grandchild April Koldys. In addition to her husbands, Mel was predeceased by her brother Victor Biasin and sisters Rose A. Pericolosi and Edith Raspuzzi.

Funeral Services for Amelia (Mel) Koldys will be held Monday, Jan. 24 at 10 a.m., with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at Corpus Christi Church Saint Teresa of Calcutta Parish with Reverend William P. Murphy, Pastor officiating. Burial will follow in Saint Bridget’s Cemetery. In keeping with Mel’s wishes, there are no calling hours. Condolences may be made through the Birches-Roy website.

Francis Thomas Duke Jr., 82, of Lenox

The funeral for Mr. Francis T. Duke will be held on Friday, May 16, at 11 a.m., at Trinity Church in Lenox, with Rev. Michael Tuck officiating. Burial will be private in Corashire Cemetery in Monterey. There will be no calling hours.
