Alan J. “Al” Pavoni, 69, of Great Barrington

There will be no calling hours.

Alan J. “Al” Pavoni died at home on December 12, 2023, after a long battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family.

Al was born on August 31, 1954, in Pittsfield, to Paul and Lena Pavoni. He grew up in Lee and was in the first graduating class of Taconic High School in Pittsfield, where he learned to be a machinist.

From a young age, Al was interested in anything mechanical. He would take apart his toys and put them back together. After graduation, he started his own business, a business that grew because of his expertise and knowledge.

Al’s hobbies included dirt motorbiking and snowmobiling. He was a member of Greylock Riders Motorcycle Club. He loved to compete in enduro racing all over New England. For 20 years, with his brother, he was involved as a stagehand in the production of “The Nutcracker,” something to which he always looked forward.

Al was always ready for a party and a good time. Friends knew he was present because of his infectious laugh. When needed, friends and family always knew Al was available to help.

Al was predeceased by his wife Maylene Pavoni and is survived by his brother Richard Pavoni; his sister-in-law Joanne; his niece Stephanie Wertz and her husband Ronald; his nephew Christopher Pavoni and his wife Beth; and his grandniece and nephew Fiona and Riley Wertz.

There will be no calling hours. Donations in memory of Alan J. Pavoni may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires, 877 South Street, Suite 1W, Pittsfield, MA 01201. To send remembrances to his family, please visit the website of Finnerty & Stevens Funeral Home.
