A Rhyme: Word Soufflé

The recipe reader's dilemma: Some of these terms are confounding to me ...

So many steps
to prepare a good meal
From chicken and pork chops
to steak, beef or veal

Al dente, au gratin,
au jus, ‘a la carte
So much to know
where on earth do I start?

Whether to boil it,
blanche, baste, beat, or roast
Just one wrong step
and the whole meal is toast!

When do I saute’,
sear, simmer or stew?
Chop, squash or dredge it,
which one should I do?

To splice, slice or dice it,
grease, grate it or shred?
To macerate, render,
stir, flake it or bread?

Some of these terms
are confounding to me
Like trussing and concasse
and…what’s fricassee?

Braising or glazing
it’s all so hair-raising
To brown or to brine
it’s so hard to define!

When do I julienne,
pat, dry or rinse?
Parboil or liquify,
scald, steam or mince?

And while we’re at it
what’s Japanese quince?
Tried all of these one time
but not one time since

Bisque, crisp or whisk it
or brisket alone?
De-glaze or deep-fry
poach, bake or de-bone?

To dress, zest or frost it
flay, fold it or froth?
To grind, crush or core it,
whip, roll it or broth?

Shall I fillet it
or salmon croquette it?
Flambe, puree, sorbet
or café au lait it?

To cut, cure or curdle,
clarify or score?
Butterfly or jacquard
and what’s confit for?

To caramelize, drizzle,
coddle or sizzle?
Tenderize, chiffonade,
scramble or fizzle?

Have tried every recipe,
read every book
This mystifies me
since I don’t like to cook!

It’s time to stop trying
of this there’s no doubt
I’m hungry and tired. . .
think I’ll just eat out!
