A Rhyme: Graceless Aging (for Bella)

What are all these changes, happening to me? They say it's just natural . . . Really?- let's see:

Eyesight’s foggy
am frequently groggy
Hearing is shot
and I often say . . . “what“?

All my joints ache
and I can’t stay awake
My bones, soft and brittle
what’s next . . . piddle?

Neckline sags,
under my eyes … bags
Feet plain old hurt
tough staying alert

Both my knees crack
oh lord, my back!
Sense of smell’s through
This happen to you?

Boobs keep fallin’
nobody’s callin’
Hairline is sparse
this must be a farce

Cognition’s diminished
maybe I’m finished
My judgement is off
And what’s with this cough?

Forgetting too much
may be losing my touch
Too often have chills
can’t keep up with the pills!

And as for the bathroom
I won’t even start
Would you admit it?
you know, that you . . .

Gum-line’s receding
hemorrhoids are bleeding
Once I stood tall
now I try not to fall

My balance ain’t so good
so now I sit where once I stood
As for sex, wish that I could
if someone asked, think that I would

Indigestion’s on the rise
and let’s not talk about my thighs
Flexibility isn’t there
and has anyone seen my hair?

My skin has turned dry
can no longer get high
Walking’s a chore
as is opening a door

Sciatica’s aching
Have trouble waking
Cars make me queasy
with allergies, sneezy

Fighting boredom,
here’s the rub
Cannot get
out of the tub

Tastebuds have dulled
so most food tastes dry
And am often reminded
to zip up my fly

Memory’s not the same
by a long shot
Here’s a good example . . .
oh wait, I just forgot!

There’s much more to say
and would love to keep singing…
If I could just get
my ears to stop ringing!

Can see why this (aging)
has such a bum rap
Tho, you must please excuse me
. . . it’s time for my nap.

MAHLER FESTIVAL: First day, First Symphony

I came to Amsterdam to listen to all of Gustav Mahler’s 10 symphonies by some of the world’s greatest orchestras, one each day, consecutively, and his ‘Song of the Earth’, but especially the four movements that comprise his First Symphony.

CONCERT REVIEW: An airy spirit comes to Earth, with flutes, at Tanglewood

While audiences come to concerts expecting to hear a selected menu of scores played as written by (frequently) absent composers, here we were confronted with a totally integrated experience of instrumental and vocal sound, many spontaneously created, as well as lights, body movement, and theater.

THEATER REVIEW: ‘Ragtime’ plays at Goodspeed Musicals through June 15

This is one piece of theater no one should ever miss, and this production is about as good as it will ever get.
