A deeper look into food sustainability in the Berkshires

As Steve Rubin points out, there is much work taking place behind the scenes, including efforts by the Berkshire branch of the NAACP and BRIDGE.

To the editor: 

I applaud Steve Rubin for reminding us that many worthwhile organizations are working toward food sustainability in the Berkshires. May I suggest a deeper look into the subject? The Berkshire branch of the NAACP and BRIDGE are two organizations providing leadership in this area. In fact, BRIDGE provides an excellent list of other volunteer groups, farms, and organizations active in this area and also reminds us that many of our local food retailers also contribute to this effort.

As Steve Rubin points out, there is much work taking place behind the scenes to help provide food security in the Berkshires. This is about so much more than a pleasant day shopping for food, when many of our neighbors can’t afford that luxury.
