A day of fun for everyone at Great Barrington Rotary Club’s 16th annual Truck Day and Pumpkin Drop event
“At an event like this, we can let children climb into the equipment and talk to the people who run it," Mark DeCelle, Rotary Club member and main organizer of the event, told The Edge. "They get to do all the fun things that they’re never allowed to do."
Great Barrington — The town’s Rotary Club held its annual Truck Day and Pumpkin Drop event at Ski Butternut on Sunday, October 20. A benefit for the organization’s various community projects and its scholarship program, the event included a chance for families and their children to interact and climb into construction, emergency, and delivery vehicles, as well as race cars.
“A lot of children go by construction sites when their parents drive them somewhere, and oftentimes these kids wonder about what the equipment does,” Mark DeCelle, Rotary Club member and main organizer of the event, told The Berkshire Edge. “At an event like this, we can let children climb into the equipment and talk to the people who run it. They get to do all the fun things that they’re never allowed to do. This event is for children of all ages, and it’s great to bring all of these people in the community all together.”
The event included members of various community organizations including Southern Berkshire Ambulance, Sheffield Fire Department, the Great Barrington Police Department, and the Berkshire County Sheriff’s Office.

“We are expanding because this is what the community needs,” LitNet Executive Director Leigh Doherty told The Edge. “In May, ViM expanded to Pittsfield. LitNet is following ViM because Pittsfield is where the immigrant community is living and working, and this is where we need to be.”
