The winter solstice arrived and along with it came some visions for the future. Enjoy the following predictions for 2016, available exclusively to our readers from Great Barrington’s premiere soothsayer and avid Berkshire Edge reader Heebie GB:

  1. A growing number of scandals leads to Ed McCormick’s departure as Town Moderator. Town bylaws dictate that whoever received the second-most votes during the previous election replace him, making David Magadini Town Moderator.
  1. A meteorite crashes into Monument Mountain Regional High School in the middle of the night, injuring nobody but destroying a good portion of the school. Insurance pays for the complete rebuild.
  1. The Selectboard does not approve the special permit for The Berkshire to be built at the site of the Searles School. Jane Iredale accepts Bobby Houston’s offer and he renovates the property to include seven condos. The Mahidas purchase the condos and rent them out through Air BnB. Traffic nightmares ensue.
  1. An unprecedented flash hurricane rips through Great Barrington. Giant traffic poles shield residents from winds, saving dozens.
  1. A local developer teams with Barnes & Noble to purchase The Bookloft. Angry residents who oppose the proposed project, which includes the addition of nine floors to the store, argue that it does not maintain the historical integrity of the mall.
